Science Comedian Brian Malow is a stand-up comic, public speaker, science communicator, video and audio producer, photographer, interviewer, live and virtual event host, and consultant.

His unique blend of science and comedy has been entertaining audiences from TEDx Berkeley to Los Alamos National Lab to the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Germany. 

As a performer and science communication speaker and trainer, Brian has worked with the NSF, AAAS, NASA, NIST and many other acronyms. He’s a frequent collaborator of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and Sigma Xi The Scientific Research Honor Society. 

He’s also worked with universities such as  Johns Hopkins Medicine, Northwestern, University of Michigan, Duke, and NC State, and corporations like Google, Apple, Dell, Microsoft, Syngenta, Genentech and Merck.

Brian has produced science videos for Time Magazine and Slate as well as audio essays for Neil deGrasse Tyson’s StarTalk Radio. He was a blogger for Scientific American and consultant on a NASA outreach project for the Mars MAVEN mission.

He has made appearances on NPR’s Science Friday and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and co-hosted Hacking the Planet and The Truth About Twisters on The Weather Channel. He can be seen in the documentaries Life on Us and Science Friction.

Since 2016, Brian has annually produced live videos from the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting featuring interviews with Nobel Prize winners and young scientists from around the world. He has also interviewed Brian May, Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Vint Cerf, Chris Hadfield, Francis Collins, They Might Be Giants and Steve Vai, among others.

Brian has gone where few comedians have gone before. He has entertained Cassini scientists at JPL and visited the Perimeter Institute, the Vatican Observatory, Fermilab, CERN and not one but two deep underground science labs (SNOLAB and SURF). His Neil Armstrong routine was once heard aboard a Space Shuttle (STS-44) while it orbited the Earth.

He has appeared at the Starmus Festival, TEDx Berkeley, the USA Science & Engineering Festival, and been featured in American Scientist, Nature, Science, and Symmetry magazines, as well as the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Washington Post.

Brian’s science communication seminars help train scientists to become better public speakers. He has worked with the National Science Foundation, the AAAS Science Policy Fellows, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the American Geophysical Union, and the Canadian National Research Council, among others.

Brian also specializes in public engagement as a practitioner, helping organizations, institutes, universities, and meetings communicate their science to the public via live or edited interviews that can appear across their social media platforms.

The California Academy of Sciences named Brian one of their inaugural Osher Science Communication Fellows.
